Game Dev North 3
On Saturday, Greenfly Studios made the journey to Chester to attend Game Dev North: a gathering of developers and students ranging from the Midlands to the North. Whilst only on its third meetup, it attracted over 90 attendees from all development paths; a fantastic achievement considering its initial offerings comprised of only 10 people!
Held within The Cellar, a fully stocked bar awaited us downstairs and the mingling started. Ranging from the husband / wife outfit Alien Apple Studios, academics from Futureworks Manchester and Staffordshire University as well as representatives from the AAA and indie community, everyone was in high spirits.
Old war stories were swapped, heated debates on the current game industry were abound and new contacts made. The ease with which people could jump in to conversations was a testament to the friendly nature of both game developers and Northerners. Making the rounds was Game Dev North organiser, Sam Mottershaw, as well as co-hosts White Paper Games (Benjamin Hill and Pete Bottomley – who we met at the recent ‘Meet The Games Press‘ event), Paw Print Games (Antony White) and Project Static (Craig Harbour and Benjamin Milnes.)
With the drinks flowing freely, The Cellar staff announced the serving of dinner (in the form of bacon and facon sandwiches) and a mad dash ensued – who knew game devs were a hungry lot! Finally, the event was rounded off with the Game Dev North business card raffle with prizes ranging from bottles of beer, an RC Mario Kart and finally, a bottle of champagne (that we won! Thanks guys!).
It was great meeting you all and looking forward to the next meet up!
